Do you remember when email became widely available?
I do, like it was yesterday. I had just started my first job at an advertising/public relations firm. And even though email was completely unknown to me, I remember thinking it was cool.
Email was efficient and timely, secure and cost-effective. It helped make my job easier. But email was new, so many of my clients didn’t embrace it right away due to various concerns — security, cost, training, etc.
Fast forward to today. Social media is the new email. It’s intimidating and overwhelming to some, while others, like me, see it as a faster, more efficient way to reach the masses, connect with people, get the latest news/trends and do so much more.
Social media = influence
If you or your company have not embraced social media yet, what’s holding you back? Get there soon or you might get left behind. I’m serious. Social media offers so many opportunities that it needs to be a part of your overall business/marketing plan. Here’s why: social media influences purchase decisions.
- Nearly 8 out of 10 people purchase things based on a company’s social media posts – if you aren’t sharing content about your products/services on social media, you’re missing an easy and cost efficient way to reach your clients and prospects.
- Nearly 3 out of 4 people research social networks before making a purchase decision – again, if you’re not on social media, how will your clients find you? Chances are, they won’t, but they might find your competitors.
- 8 in 10 people are influenced by social media posts from their friends – if you have a loyal and happy client base, just think about how they might be able to generate more business for you.
Social media won’t wait for you
It’s time to let go of any inhibitions you might have about social media. Are you still using compliance as an excuse? Stop feeling overwhelmed. Stop saying you don’t have time. Get educated, get a strategy and build your social media footprint. The world is connecting on social media with or without you.
Why aren’t you using social media? What is your biggest challenge? Have a social media success story to share? I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a line in the comments or on Twitter.
